Which Frequent Flyer Program Should you Join?

Often I will get asked at family gatherings so what Frequent Flyer Program should i join? It’s really not a simple answer, in my opinion join all of them ūüôā I will write up a guide of one of the best ones to join for us here in Australia,¬†please add in the comments if i had missed any i will¬†add them.

Why would I Join all of them?

  • When you join the major airlines we use here in Australia you will earn points when you fly with them or link your credit card points to them, which you can use for future flight redemption, ie also earning points when re-fuelling
  • if you want to buy points/miles for redemption some of the programs don’t allow you to do that unless you have been registered for a period of time.
  • Get email alerts on latest promotions ( i’d suggest creating a special email just for this, so you know all your¬†travel related emails are in the same inbox)

Here are my top Recommended Frequent Flyer Programs for Australia

1. QANTAS

Qantas Join Frequent Flyer
Qantas , Join Frequent Flyer

Qantas usually charges a sign up fee of $89.95 as once off, but most of the time they do run promotions where you will get that fee waived. Also usually if you have a Credit Card that has the Qantas Frequent Flyer program attached to it, you will receive free Qantas Frequent Flyer Membership. This is our National Flagship carrier and has over 10 Million Members signed up. You can Join the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program HERE

2. Velocity Frequent Flyer

Join Velocity Frequent Flyer
Join Velocity Frequent Flyer

Velocity is the second largest Frequent Flyer Program in Australia currently at around 4.5 million Registered users, Virgin Australia is looking to increase that to 7.5 million by end of 2017. I guess we are all seeing the new partnerships they are forming to lure in the extra customers to come aboard (ie FlyBuys redemption and BP fuel ) so there is plenty of opportunity to earn the extra points. 3. Singapore Airlines Kris Flyer

Join Singapore Airlines Kris Flyer
Join Singapore Airlines Kris Flyer

This is one of my favourite programs, there are many credit card programs where you can transfer your points to Kris Flyer, and now you can also transfer your Velocity Points straight to Kris Flyer. The conversion will be calculated at a rate of 1.35 Velocity Points to 1.00 KrisFlyer Mile when transferring Velocity Points to KrisFlyer. You can join the Kris Flyer program HERE

4.Cathay Pacific Asia Miles

The Cathay Pacific Asia Miles Program is a pretty good Program, especially on long haul Flights into Asia and also into Europe out of Hong Kong. Cathay Pacific usually charges the least amount of Taxes. You can join the Cathay Pacific Asia Miles Program HERE

Overseas Programs You Should Join

Here are some of the Overseas Programs you should Join for variety of Reasons , such as regular promotions when purchasing Miles, and better search Tools for Mile Redemptions with ie One World.

1. American Airlines AAdvantage

American Airlines AAdvantage is great for redemptions with the oneworld airlines. The offer regular promotions when purchasing miles direct from American Airlines, and you can also transfer your Credit Card Membership Points to them, You can join American Airlines AAdvantage Program HERE

2.British Airways Executive Club

British Airways Executive Club
British Airways Executive Club

As explained Earlier the British Airways Program is a great tool to find award seats from the oneworld airlines, as QANTAS does sometimes not display the wider choice of Seats/Airlines. You can Join the British Airways Program HERE

3. United Airlines Mileage Plus

United Airlines Mileage Plus
United Airlines Mileage Plus

The United Airlines Program is very useful for finding searching Star Alliance airline award seats.

There are probably other Programs that I have missed out and that some of us are using, In my opinion for the average Joe this is probably the Frequent Flyer Programs we would use and need to find and book our reward seats. When you join these Programs you will get a better understanding what and how many points are required to fly on a specific airline or a specific Program.
